The number of hotels in Ukraine has increased considerably in recent times and now there's no problem with finding an accommodation in Ukraine.
Unfortunately, the prices of Ukrainian hotels are quite high when we take offered standards. Ukrainian hotels are aimed at businessmen and wealthy tourists. This makes finding decent accommodation at a reasonable price is not easy.
On one hand, two or three star hotels are expensive. There is lack of accommodation in cheaper or medium category. Hotels in Ukraine offers dual pricing system. Foreigners pay different rates for the same standard as origin Ukrainians.
This system is slowly disappearing, but apply it to some hotels in the eastern part of Ukraine, the Crimea and in smaller towns. Hotels lists are sometimes difficult to read, because sometimes apply various types of payments mandatory.
It is good therefore to ask about the final price. If the guests are qualified upon from the West they pay more.
In the private hotels, which are in minority, there is sometimes possible to negotiate the price. The cheapest hotels are state-owned dormitory rooms with shared bathroom. But it is a good option if travelling in a group and treat the bed as a short rest before continuing their journey.
It is difficult to sustain in such places a long time, if only because of the noise, primitive sanitary conditions and the presence of suspicious customers.
Practically the only way to avoid the higher rate of pay is negotiation or agreement to pay without getting a receipt for accommodation.
Prices for most rooms in the mid-range hotels in Ukraine oscillate between 50 and 150 hryvnias per person in double room. In smaller towns is a bit cheaper.
Generally, on the east and south of the Ukraine there are less hotels and possibilities for accommodation, but they are cheaper. In larger cities, accommodation in hotels costs from 200 UAH for the cheapest room. Good quality hotel costs in the range from 300 to 500 UAH.
Unlike hotels in Russia – hotels in Ukraine have relatively little standard. Even in more expensive hotels there isn't hot water for all day.
In large cities of Ukraine, especially in Lviv, Odessa and in the east tend to be problems with water supply. It occurs for example in the morning for 3 hours, only to reappear again until the evening.
During the summer there's only a cold water. So regardless of whether we decide to stay in a hotel or motels - we must reckon with the problems of water supply.
The cheapest hotels belongs to companies: sports schools, shipbuilding, mining, railways, etc. There are too many, but they are cheap. The accommodation in the medium class hotels of this type cost about 20-50 UHR per night per person.
